Floating in a sea of climate change hoaxes
Isabel Moreno is a meteorologist and presenter with a solid background in scientific and climate outreach. She specializes in explaining climate change with rigor, pedagogy, and approachability, using a communicative style that brings science to the general public and helps to debunk hoaxes and misinformation on the subject. Her work, both on television and in outreach spaces, has been recognized as an example of how clear and accessible communication can strengthen social debate in the face of the climate crisis and foster a better-informed citizenry more aware of its role in the transition to sustainability.
The talk will be dedicated to debunking some of the most common hoaxes and misinformation about climate change and the oceans, using her book Atmósfera de bulos (Atmosphere of Hoaxes) as a reference. Through concrete examples, it will address how these false narratives distort the public perception of the climate crisis, what strategies are used to spread them, and how to counter them with rigorous and accessible scientific information. The goal is to equip the public with tools to identify and question misinformation, thereby reinforcing honest and transformative climate communication.
