Transmitting knowledge in an understandable language.

Our goal is to generate activities that bring science and conservation closer, strengthening society's emotional connection with its responsibility towards environmental protection.

These are actions such as conference cycles, interventions in the media, actions related to environmental and scientific days or ephemeris, and the creation of informative content through videos, the Oceanogràfic Foundation's own website, or other audiovisual media.

This line of work interprets and makes scientific knowledge accessible, focusing its attention not only on the most cutting-edge scientific discoveries of the Oceanogràfic Foundation, but also on scientific theories and various fields of knowledge relevant for citizens to make informed decisions about complex issues related to oceanic sciences.

  • Educational and scientific voyages

Over the past few years, the Oceanogràfic Foundation has experienced a unique synergy with various academic institutions, public administrations, and private operators.

This shared connection seeks to establish meaningful collaborations, giving rise to the “scientific voyages” initiative.

These voyages, designed in partnership with external entities, offer unique tourism-education experiences that transcend the boundaries of the aquarium.

    Current Collaborations:

The main objectives of this partnership are to strengthen existing alliances and generate new voyages with varied, high-quality content; impart rigorous scientific knowledge through specialized training for the crew; create support and interpretive materials to enrich the experience; and promote the presence of the Oceanogràfic brand and the Foundation as a benchmark in research, conservation, and outreach of oceanic sciences and current environmental issues.

Goleta Tirant Primer GVA Escoles a La Mar (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport):

The Goleta Tirant Primer acts as a launchpad for the Oceanogràfic’s environmental education program, impacting the educational centers visited and collaborating closely with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

Target audience: Schoolchildren participating in nautical activities

Goleta Cervantes Saavedra (Camilo José Cela University):

Driven by the Camilo José Cela University, it combines sailing on a classic sailboat with educational activities and practical workshops led by marine biologists from the Oceanogràfic. The “Mysteries of the Mediterranean” program seeks to raise awareness about the protection of the marine environment.

Target audience: General public and families

Polar Voyages (Worldwide Nautic-All Operator, Oceanosophia Project):

In collaboration with Worldwide Nautic-All, the Oceanosophia project carries out the voyage “The Sea and Polar Explorations.” A unique experience in the Arctic Polar Circle aboard the ship “Antigua,” offering activities based on experimentation, knowledge, and observation of the marine world and the Arctic ecosystem.

These voyages are aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, seeking to raise awareness among participants about the protection of the marine environment and promoting sustainable practices. The active collaboration of participants is key to conserving and understanding marine diversity.

Experiences where knowledge merges with adventure.

Target audience: General public and families

TIDE OF CHANGE 2025

We are Responsible for the Engine of Change that Will Guide Us towards the Planet of the Future: the Planet We Want.

The Tide of Change is born to unite and share our efforts and responsibilities for the conservation of biodiversity and the Planet.

Inspired and aligned with the “Decade of the Oceans,” an initiative promoted by the United Nations under the slogan “The science we need for the ocean we want,” the Tide of Change aims to generate a connection platform between the most innovative science and citizens through participatory activities.

The Tide of Change is a cycle of scientific dialogues organized by the Oceanogràfic Foundation, where experts, researchers, and society come together to discuss the most urgent environmental challenges. In its 2025 edition, under the slogan Alliances for the Climate, the focus will be on cooperation between institutions, companies, and citizens to promote solutions to climate change. Through conferences and round tables, strategies will be explored to mitigate its impact on the oceans and foster joint action that guarantees a sustainable future for the planet.

From education in the classroom, good practices and sustainable choices for everyday life, to nature-based solutions for our cities, this year we invite you to attend our dialogue tables and conferences to learn and fight together for the planet we want.

Will You Join the Tide of Change?

PROGRAM 2024-2025

APRIL 17, 2024

INAUGURAL TALK

‘Climate Change: Understanding the Present to Take Care of the Future’

We will start the Tide of Change with a talk on our starting point regarding climate change, by the scientific director of the Basque Centre for Climate Change, Dr. Mª José Sanz.

DIALOGUE TABLE

‘Two-way Dialogue: the Price of the Planet’

This year, OceanFEST hosts an informative meeting on sustainability and climate change. The two sides of sustainability will be debated: ecology and economy, the key pieces in the conservation of nature.

In this dialectical encounter, two indispensable parts for the development and the future of the planet as we know it will face each other.

And for this, we will have the presence of experts from each field where they will hold a colloquium on how to address climate change, taking into account the economy:

  • Fernando Valladares, Research Biologist at the CSIC and associate professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid.
  • Jose Carlos Díez, Research Economist and Professor at the University of Alcalá.
  • David Nácher, scientific communicator from the Oceanogràfic.
