Pillars Programs of Conservation

Generating a Forum for Discussion and Knowledge for Conservation

Promoting interdisciplinary discussion and exchange.

The main objective is to position the Oceanogràfic as a driver of change, growth, and expansion of marine conservation actions to facilitate decision-making that guides towards a sustainable marine future

  • Creating a sea observatory at the Oceanogràfic

The objective is to resolve conflicts and enhance opportunities to improve specific aspects related to the marine environment.

The aim is to establish a platform that provides a horizontal and transdisciplinary vision, contributing to decision-making through the collection, classification, and updating of accurate information. This observatory will act as an observation point to generate useful evidence in specific areas of marine management, promoting coordinated and sustainable approaches in its environmental, social, and economic dimensions.

This project is proposed as an essential tool to address complex contexts, where different actors exposed to external threats and global forces converge. It seeks to avoid sectoral and threat fragmentation, promoting integration at all levels. The goal is to achieve coordinated approaches in the management of marine spaces in the Valencian Community, oriented towards sustainability, and ensuring principles of veracity, legitimacy, and utility.

The Sea Observatory will be implemented through strategic initiatives and the definition of an Action Plan in various areas of competence. The dissemination of the aspects addressed will be promoted, and levels of interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and competence-based interaction will be developed, such as accessibility to information, collective participation, co-creation, and governance.

  • Promoting conservation lines through the Spanish Committee of the IUCN

Since 2022, the Oceanogràfic Foundation has been part of the Spanish Committee of the IUCN as an observer member, actively participating in the IUCN’s conservation strategy at the national, European, Latin American, Mediterranean, and North African levels.

This committee coordinates the meeting and debate between various organizations involved in the conservation of biodiversity in Spain, including NGOs, public and scientific administrations.

Being an observer member offers key opportunities, such as participation in the common strategy for nature in Spain, monitoring the Red List of Threatened Species in different regions, and contributing to the creation of manuals of good practices in conservation.”

For the Oceanogràfic, joining this organization represents the opportunity to share its knowledge and experience in conservation, promoting collaboration to generate a joint vision that evaluates the effectiveness of local and regional actions in the protection and conservation of nature.
