Banca March
The Oceanogràfic Foundation, the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències of Valencia, and Banca March, through its “Mediterranean Found” thematic solidarity fund, have developed a program called Projecte Posidònia, which aims to protect one of the most threatened ecosystems on the planet: the Posidonia seagrass meadows in the Marina Alta region.
The two-year project has been structured in two main phases:
Technical-Scientific Phase: A detailed cartographic study was conducted on approximately 7,000 hectares of seabed in areas such as Almadraba, the Montgó Natural Park, and the Ifac marine area. Using side-scan sonar technology and video prospecting, the Posidonia seagrass meadows were accurately identified, providing essential data for their conservation.
Interpretive Phase: Educational activities were developed for the school community and the general public, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of Posidonia and promoting sustainable practices in the marine environment.
Similarly, a free mobile application was launched that, through geolocation, informs navigators about the presence of Posidonia seagrass meadows in the Marina Alta, Marina Baixa, and Balearic Islands (thanks to the collaboration of the Government of the Balearic Islands), facilitating responsible anchoring and avoiding damage to this ecosystem.
