Activity with IES Benicalap
Scientific bird banding is a fundamental technique that allows individual bird identification, studying their movements, migrations, and health status, and obtaining key information for ecosystem monitoring. This activity, which we will carry out with the Benicalap Secondary School, is part of the Oceanogràfic Foundation’s educational and environmental services programs, aiming to bring biodiversity conservation closer to students and teachers. Through direct participation in fieldwork and explanations by the technical team, the school experiences citizen science that reinforces curricular content and fosters environmental responsibility.
In addition to the ringing, the day will include an interpretive tour of the rice field to understand the relationship between traditional agriculture and wetland conservation, and a cleanup of the natural environment. This latter activity immediately improves the state of the ecosystem and, at the same time, encourages reflection on the impact of waste on biodiversity, analyzing its causes and origins, and promoting waste reduction habits at source from the educational community.
