Una tortuga marina se dirige hacia el mar en una playa tranquila al atardecer. Al fondo, un grupo de personas observa el momento desde la orilla.

Every summer, the Oceanogràfic Foundation promotes the Turtles of the Mediterranean Campaign, a conservation initiative focused on the protection of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), an emblematic species that visits our coasts to nest. The campaign covers the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia, Andalusia, and the Balearic Islands, in collaboration with the Seville Aquarium and the Azul Marino Foundation.

The campaign includes the installation of informative posters on street furniture and public transport to educate citizens on how to act when sighting sea turtles. In the event of a sighting, it is recommended to call 112 to activate the Stranding Network, which includes the University of Valencia, the Department of Agriculture and Ecological Transition, and the Oceanogràfic Foundation itself.

In addition, within the framework of this campaign, the anniversary of “People of the Sea” is commemorated, a day dedicated to recognizing and thanking the work of all the people who, from different fields—fishing, research, education, volunteering, or environmental management—dedicate their lives to caring for the Mediterranean Sea and its biodiversity. And to this end, we will return to the sea a turtle recovered in the facilities of the ARCA del Mar of the Oceanogràfic.

These actions reflect the Oceanogràfic Foundation’s commitment to marine conservation and citizen awareness, reminding us that the protection of the Mediterranean is a shared responsibility.
