Release of Iberian ribbed newts as part of the population reinforcement project led by the Oceanogràfic Foundation. This initiative aims to recover and stabilize the populations of this native species, whose presence in certain natural enclaves of the Valencian Community has been compromised in recent years.
The Iberian ribbed newt (Pleurodeles waltl) is an endemic species of the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco, the only newt with a tail present in the Valencian Community. When threatened, it can extend its ribs through the skin, showing orange spots that alert predators. The Oceanogràfic of Valencia actively participates in conservation programs for this species, including its breeding and introduction into natural habitats.
