Release of Newborn Sea Turtles in Torrevieja

The Oceanogràfic Foundation is developing a head starting program that consists of temporarily housing loggerhead turtle hatchlings (Caretta caretta) born on the beaches of the Valencian Community during the summer. These newborns remain under specialized care in our facilities during their first months of life, a critical stage in which their vulnerability is very high. Thanks to this support, the turtles reach a larger size and strength before being returned to the sea, thus increasing their chances of survival in the wild.

Within the framework of this program, the release of the newborns born on the beach of Torrevieja will take place, a very special moment that symbolizes the return to the sea of these small turtles after having overcome their most delicate phase under the care of the Oceanogràfic Foundation.
