Valencia, July 13, 2017
Fundación Oceanogràfic and the Red Cross continue their tour of the beaches of the Valencian Community with their awareness campaign on marine animal strandings. After conducting simulations in Gandia, Oliva, Guardamar del Segura, and Xàbia, they have arrived today in Alcossebre and will close the campaign next Sunday in Nules.
These unique demonstrations aim to raise awareness of the biological richness of the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the presence of certain emblematic species such as sea turtles and dolphins, and to educate the public about the main threats of human origin. In addition, they have also provided basic information about jellyfish.
A multitude of attendees have attentively followed the explanations of the professionals from Fundación Oceanogràfic and the Red Cross, who have explained the importance of not handling or overwhelming the animal, the need to keep it moist with a cloth, and, in the case of dolphins, not covering its blowhole and notifying the Red Cross at the post.
Among the actions, they have also emphasized the importance of notifying the Stranding Network of the Valencian Community through 112.
