{"id":5822,"date":"2025-09-03T10:17:56","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T08:17:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fundacionoceanografic.org\/blog\/el-campello-beach-records-the-birth-of-72-sea-turtles\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T16:57:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T14:57:16","slug":"el-campello-beach-records-the-birth-of-72-sea-turtles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fundacionoceanografic.org\/en\/el-campello-beach-records-the-birth-of-72-sea-turtles\/","title":{"rendered":"El Campello Beach Records the Birth of 72 Sea Turtles"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><span>On the morning of September 3, a new spontaneous nest of loggerhead sea turtles (<\/span><em>Caretta caretta<\/em><span>) was recorded on El Campello beach, Alicante, with a total of 98 eggs and 72 hatchlings, two of which were still emerging from the sand at the time of the intervention.<\/span><\/div>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In the count carried out by the team from the <a href=\"https:\/\/fundacionoceanografic.org\/en\/\">Oceanogr\u00e0fic Foundation<\/a> and the University of Valencia, 92 shells and 67 turtles were counted in the sand, in addition to five hatchlings that were released by individuals before the arrival of the technical team.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-61647 aligncenter img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/fundacionoceanografic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Nido-tortugas-El-Campello-09-300x200-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The final balance has been completed with four eggs with embryonic development and two eggs without a pole, that is, without possibilities of evolution.<\/p>\n<p>Of the total number of turtles found on the beach, five of them have been transferred to the Oceanogr\u00e0fic of Valencia (CACSA \u2013 GVA) to be part of the Head Starting program, which allows them to be raised in safe conditions for approximately one year until they reach a size that increases their chances of survival in the wild.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-61652 aligncenter img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/fundacionoceanografic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Diseno-sin-titulo-3-300x169-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"589\" height=\"332\"><\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>This new episode confirms the expansion of loggerhead sea turtle nesting on the Valencian coast, a phenomenon that is increasingly frequent on beaches in Castell\u00f3n, Valencia and Alicante.
